In Pieria culture lovers will take a magnificent journey through time.
Pieria is an attraction for visitors with strong archaeological and historical interest. It gathers a wealth of finds, extending from the Neolithic Settlement of Makrygialos, Ancient Dion, and Ancient Pydna to the Byzantine Castle of Platamonas.
Findings of the excavations are exhibited in the Archaeological Museum. Particularly important is the collection of sculptures from the Hellenistic and Roman times. A series of Monasteries and Churches also bear witness to the long history of the prefecture.
Pieria is also the home of Orpheus, the Pierids and the Muses. Every summer the Olympus Festival is organized in the Ancient Theater of Dion and is the top summer event of the region.
It is a festival of music and theater which dates back about 2.300 years. The festival starts in July and lasts until the end of August and includes theater and dance performances, music concerts, archaeological talks, philosophical walks, and exhibitions, aiming to provide the local population as well as tourists with cultural entertainment and promote contact between different cultures. The festival is supported by the Ministry of Culture and the Municipality of Dios as well as by the local authorities of Pieria.
